Anchoring a container as a turnkey solution

Sometimes it’s necessary to secure down a container to its place to avoid any unauthorized moving.

As a turnkey solution for a customer, we organized anchoring a shipping container to the ground.

The first part of the project was hewing down a tree that grew in the intended spot, and digging a deep enough hole that would match the size of the container in width and length. After this, four heavy-duty steel chains were fastened with cross-installation at the bottom of the pit. The chains were secured at their final places by dumping enough gravel to fill up the hole, leaving the ends of the steel chain peaking on top of the gravel bed.

Finally, the container was lifted on top of the gravel bed and the steel chains were threaded through the four holes that had previously been drilled into the bottom of the container.  T-shaped steel bars were attached to the ends of the steel chains.

The underground cross-installation of the chains, the use of gravel and sturdy fastening materials will prevent unauthorized moving of the container in the future.

Project phases

  1. A tree was hewed down and soil was dug around the roots to create a big enough hole both in depth, length and width.
  2. The steel chains were fastened at the bottom of the hole with cross-installed steel bars and gravel.
  3. The container was lifted on top of the gravel bed so that the steel chains were aligned with the holes that had been drilled into the bottom of the container.
  4. The steel chains were threaded through the holes at the bottom of the container. T-shaped steel bars were attached at the ends of the steel chains to prevent the chains from falling through the holes, securing the container to its place.
  5. If someone tries to lift the container without permission, the chains will tighten and keep the container securely in its place.
